What is Histamine?
Histamine is a chemical made and stored in our mast cells. We get histamine in two ways:
It’s produced naturally in our bodies
We get it from certain foods and drinks that are naturally high in histamine
During Menopause
If our bodies can’t break histamine down effectively, it builds up. This can cause a wide range of symptoms known as Histamine Intolerance
During menopause, oestrogen plays a role, it stimulates histamine production, so women starting HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) may sometimes notice histamine-related symptoms if your body struggles to regulate histamine.
HRT and other medications can cause this. Therefore, talking to a healthcare professional can really help you.

Lipoprotein (a) Blood Test and Chat Consultation Heart Health. Men and Women.
This very specific blood test measures your risks of heart disease based on your genetics. If you have a family history of cardiovascular disease (CVD) checking your Lipoprotein (a ) (Lp a) marker will identify if you are at higher risk. Higher levels mean increased risks of CVD such as heart attacks, artery disease and strokes.
Lp(a) is similar to “bad Cholesterol” but has an added, very sticky protein that makes it more prone to sticking to artery walls, leading to blood clots.
Knowing your levels will help you change your lifestyle and get the medical support you need. Getting advice, medications, investigations and making healthy changes will improve your long-term health.
Lipoprotein a is not routinely checked on NHS
Do you have;
A family history of Heart Attacks, Strokes, Heart Failure, High Blood Pressure, Arrythmias? (abnormal heart beat).
Premature CVD in men and women aged between 50-60.
Have members of your family with CVD, especially younger than 60.
Would you like to just know your levels?
Women who have had an early menopause or haven’t had HRT may have increased risks.
The “Premature” Aspect
High Lp(a) significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke occurring at a younger age.
It’s a key factor in identifying people with a family history of high Cholesterol (FH) or strong family histories of early heart disease.
Early Diagnosis is key to improving your health
Diane from Bourne2care can help. Understanding possible causes of raised levels means you can make changes and get the investigations, treatment, reassurances you need.

Bladder may not fully empty. Stop and start when trying to urinate.
Blood in urine or semen.
Abdominal/pelvic discomfort.
